how to set up my speedking

Loading...

hi. i have a vintage Ludwig speedking pedal, that i just cleaned and brought back to life. it works smoothly. the only problem i have, is how to set up the part where the heel stands (the back-part of the pedal). when i bought it it was screwed on, i unscrewed it now, but either way it makes a lot of "metall-rattling"-noise, that is very unpleasant. anybody can give e some advice on this? thanks.

Hey there, mschrant !

Sounds like you may have cross-threaded the screw under the heel plate when you put it back in, and now it's not in far enough to snug up properly. Or you forgot the washer...

Good ol' Speed Kings are famous for some rattling and squeaking. The steel link between the footboard and beater tends to rattle after a bit of wear 'n' tear, and the hinge pins tend to squeak - just listen to some of the old James Brown recordings when they used to mic Bernard Purdie's bass drum from the batter side.

Dig it !
