You don't have a theory. You have a question that will eventually be worked into a specialized statement that you can test. That would become your hypothesis. I would suggest taking a random sampling from more than just this site if you hope to substantiate your leanings (bias). For the record, there are about fifty or so drummers and musicians I work with through my church. All but a few play vintage gear and most all are still in school. Most every studio I've recorded inhad multiple vintage kits and a huge variety of vintage snares. I assure you, there was no age limitations put on the drummers. I'm your average two thousand year old man.

Note the separation between "drummers and musicians." Do you play guitar? Guitar Dude Man

Here is my 13 year old vintage drummer.

He's more partial to the B&B Rogers wine red ripple 13/16/22 with matching Dyna, but I didn't have a pic handy of him playing that.

I guess he's tainted though. We tend to root for the teams our Dad's rooted for and in our case, play what your Dad plays. But he's proud to play these and he doesn't think much of Pearl, Tama, PDP and whatever else his peers are playing.

Don't be a pootybutt. My background is in science ... I was attempting to explain to the OP a more precise method for obtaining his data. Do you realize just how long ago this was written??? There is more to this story than is written here. Have a nice day.

My post number was 3889 ... it was just such an odd number. Had to post one more. Now it reads 3890.

No it doesn't. It reads another odd number. I'll post this to get it back to an even number and then crawl back under my log until another passerby disturbs my pond.

I'm 30, hitting 31 in August.

As with anything I have played, I find the more work I have to do to something the more I enjoy it. With the cars I build, once I bleed on em, I will keep em forever. Many cars have come and gone, but the few I have really blown open a knuckle on I have kept. Same with instruments...if I really invest some time and effort into them, I will keep em. Even if I don't like em...I will keep em simply because I put that much into em.
