How much is it worth 1960 - 62 Rogers Cozy Cole with Cocktail conversion

Loading...

I bought this a few months ago and didn't realize, at the time, that I was getting a collector quality kit.

It's not a kit for me because I play my kits. And, I play out mostly so they get moved and gigged and (yes) beat up.

I have only played this in my studio and only a dozen times or so.

It would be a shame to gig this kit and ruin the collectivity.

Plus, it's really not the kit I play. I play a much smaller kit, usually. If I do end up gigging this, I'll probably do it in the cocktail configuration rather than dragging the entire kit around.

These old Rogers kits weight a ton. LOL

As best I can tell, it's a 1960 - 62 Cozy Cole (not the Grand Award).

13 Rack, 16 Floor, 22 Kick and 14 snare.

Black diamond pearl.

Chrome is 9 or 10 throughout.

Hoops have been re-painted but the inlay on both hoops is 100% with no cracks or lifting. Even at the staples.

Finish is near perfect throughout with no rash anywhere.

Includes the upkick pedal for the floor tom with the original beater.

Includes the hardware arms that mount the snare and the tom to the kick drum (or to the floor tom for the cocktail conversion).

The snare has the collet and collar in the shell for mounting.

Hmmm, not sure what else to say.

What I really am asking is... Is this one of those kits that's worth $2000 - $2500?

It's a little rare and it's in 8 or 9 condition.

It does have hairline cracks in most of the lugs. None are bad or broken but most have a hairline crack you could feel with your finger nail.

Sorry I don't have better pics but I'll get a lot of detailed pics if I decide to sell it.

Pretty darn cool ol' kit. Too bad that the B&B's are cracked, because that'll drop the value. I don't think $2500 (maybe if most of the lugs were still good). Probably $1500-1800 range....some of that cocktail hardware there is pretty rare.

Hmmmmmm?

Since I'm thinking about selling this, I started looking for catalog pages or whatever to help identify the kit and I am having second thoughts on whether this is a Cozy Cole or not.

It seems the Cozy Cole Grand Award had more to it and there are other models that had a snare that mounted on the kick drum like the Festival, the Showcase and the Starlite.

To add the the confusion, it seems like more kits were available with the Cocktail conversion that I originally thought was pretty exclusive the the Cozy Cole.

Anyone actually know for sure (or best guess) what model this is. I hate to misrepresent it when I sell it.

I don't usually like to bother someone I don't know at a forum. Hopefully, he will see it and chime in.

After a little research, it looks like it might be the "Festival" configuration.

Here is the ad I am preparing to sell the kit. Does anyone see anything I left out? Or, maybe something I said and should not say?

I will take some pics of the inside of the drums and add them. And, I'll actually count the cracked lugs and post the count.

Other than that, I think I covered everything.

I am going to ask $2500 or best offer. Do you think I have a chance at that price?

Thanks for all your help gang. Great group here.
