How Much are they worth

Loading...

Hello,

I am new to this forum and am looking forward to spending more time here. My question of rthe moment is this:

I need to sell my Slingerland drums that I bought new in 1978. (silver and black badge)Needless to say they have seen some use. Enough that I decided to recover them about a year ago. I still think they sound great and in some ways hate to part with them, but they have to go. They are a 6 pc Classic Rock kit with 5 ply shells

24x14 bass, 13x9,14x10,16x18 and 18x18 toms,14x6 wood snare drum. I'll be selling the drums and mounting hardware only.

had to add this. the toms are all concert drums.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

A pic would help. Also, what's the finish ?

Clarify for me...are you saying the low toms are both 18" deep ? Are you sure...that'd be very unusual if they weren't 16" deep..(?)

the 18" alone would be worth about $250 or more, just for the size and rarity of that drum.

Maybe about $1000, if the rewrap job is well-done and the set-o-matic hardware works well. I don't think much over that due to the single-headed toms...:2Cents:

Thank you for the reply.

My error. Both low toms are 16" deep.

Ok- Figured out how to add pics. Do these help?

I think $1000 would be a fair price to ask..they look to be in good shape. You can try asking $1200 and see if someone would offer off of that asking price. I mean, a vintage drum store would probably price it a few hundred higher...but plebes like you and I, having to sell on bulletin boards or eBay or Craigslist or similar venues...couldn't get away w/ pricing it that high.

The hardware looks in good shape and it's all original. If you haven't made any modifications to it (i.e. replaced mounts or spurs, etc, added new brakets, etc.) and the wrap isn';t bubbling or peeling or cracked anywhere...you have a very nice vintage factory kit there. Also, it's a '78...so the company hadn't gone into the tank quite yet..so those are still some nice, classic, quality Slingerland shells....

The 2 things going against you are:

1) They are concert toms

2) the economy...I am having a bear of a time selling my renovated kits myself...folks are holding onto their $....

I won a set similar to this one on eBay a few years ago. Same sizes, same vintage, same finish.

Got it for $650 for the 5 pcs incl. snare drum, but the wraps were pretty scuffed and there was some wrap buckling in a fair number of places. The chrome also needed lots of work. Yours appears in better shape so you should do better than that.

There were a lot of those sold back when...they were a popular rig....one of Slingy's last GOOD drums before they tanked. But most I have seen were in far, far worse shape than this one...

Late 70's Slingerland drums with concert toms unfortunately don't get that much in the market. It would help to replace the inlays. I'd say between $600 and $800 for the set. Your best bet would be to sell the snare separately.

To make it a better set (if you intended on keeping it) you could also add the bottom heads. You'd need to be handy with a drill and careful removing the old aluminum rings. I bet the bottoms of those toms have bearing edges on 'em; Slingerlands usually did.
