I just got a 70`s 402 yesterday, tuned it up today and the the heck out of it. I am just loving this one. As of today, my favorite snare.
How many Supras do you own?
For those that own more than one, do you notice a big difference in the sound between each drum?Do you have them setup differently?- different heads- different wires- different tuningHas anyone ever found or had a bad sounding Supra or is this not even possible? Am I doing to the "shell of shame" for even typing this? :(-Tim
I voted more than 5..In fact i have way over 5 of these at last count i hit number 60 the other day..The sizes are from 5" to 6.5 deep from tran's badge .B/O badges newer K/S badges..All of the snare's are set up differently with head's and wire's comb's on them....This is the most rented out snare i rent out to studio's....Mikey
Yes, I have owned 7 over the years. Never found them appealing. When I got my hands on my first 402, I loved it! Also, I finally found my love for the 400, so I have one of those now.
Just those 2.

Fun thread. I have one supra 402 that came with my Bonham vistalite "reissue" Kit. Coated emperor over clear ambassador. Sounds great. Does anyone hear any differences between the new supras vs the vintage? Am I missing something by only having a newer model?
Thanks!

Myself and Kevins A/B A NEW ONE AND MY 70'S model the newer ones are dryer sounding with less over tones than the 70's models. I'm not suggest better or worst just different sounding that's all.
I don't have one anymore. I liked it, but it was worth more to someone else. Sold it about 4 or 5 years ago. Actually, I'm not sure it was even a Supra. Is it? (I can never remember.) I bought the drum in 1980, for $150.00. Sold it for around $400.00. I remember disliking the strainer; kinda' unsubstantial feeling, but it never failed. (Guess that's more important.)

I'm down to 3, but will probably sell them soon...

Late 70's Black Beauty
Oh. I just voted none because I've got a 2002 Black Beauty 5x14 with Imperial Lugs and a P-85. I refer to it as a Supra with a Suntan. But I didn't think it should really count as a Supra sensu stricto.
The Supra has ALWAYS been my go-to snare.Just picked up my very first 6.5X14 with the Monroe badge for $75.Had to do a lot of claeaning up to it because the previous owner left it out exposed to the elements for about a year.Coated Vintage Ambassador and 24 strand Puresound wires on it makes it my NEW go-to
