How hard is this to find

Loading...

I bought a 1967 Ludwig Club Date drum set. It could be a Combo because it is missing a floor tom. The base drum is missing the front hoop (20"x1.75" with 1/2" inlay sky blue pearl). Also missing 8 t rods, 7.5" long and claws 1.75" long. I see hoops on ebay but with the wrong color inlay. Should I get one and replace the inlay? Or, wait until the proper one comes along. There is a set of t rods for sale but only six. In your experience would you wait for a set of eight or buy the six then look for two? Are there any other sources besides ebay and VDF. Everytime I do a search for these parts I eventually end up at ebay. The hoop that I do have needs painted, is there a certain black paint that should be used for that? Thanks so much!

Thank you!

Your story is very similar to mine,...

- missing 1 BD-hoop.

- missing 8 T-rods and 8 claws.

- Combo set without Floor tom.

My suggestion.

Wait for an Ebay auction and buy 8 T-rods and claws.

The claws are all over, the T-rods are a bit harder to find.

Other option is to ask the forum. There is a good chance that a member can help you but make sure to specify the finish, Nickel or Chrome !

I bought for my kit 2 brand new hoops from Classic Drums in UK that were already painted black. They look very similar to the real thing. I'm sure the same are available in US.

Waiting for a BD-hoop with the propre inlay-color can take a very long time. I would buy a hoop and inlay.

Thank you, but I have seen those t rods on ebay and they are and inch too short.

How do you tell difference between chrome and nickle? I do know that a magnet will stick to the metal hoods on this kit so I consider them COS.

Thank you!

Your kit is '67 so there is a very high chance you need Chrome.

Looking at the pictures, I would say indeed chrome.

Nickel is slightly more yellowish and wouldn't shine as hard as chrome.

I wasn't aware of different lenghts for Club Date Bass drum T-rods.

Probably the "real" specialist can help you better,...

Success !

Ya, you bet! I am new at this Vintage restoration stuff, just came across this kit and looked like a fun project. The chrome is very shinny after polishing and the wraps are beautiful after cleaning and waxing. What a great find.

Thank you!

Have you tried Mikey777, Blairdrums or Vintage Drum Bug for the parts you need here on the VDF? They might have what you are looking for...
