How do you mask off the Bearing Edges-Top and Bottom for Re-Lacquering interior?

Loading...

Hi guys, has anyone ever had experience with masking off the bearing edges of a Shell-the top and bottom, to avoid spraying any lacquer on the edges-while re-lacquering the interior? What is the best way to do this? Maybe blue painters tape would work? Something that would not leave any tape marks/residue on the natural wood surface of the bearing edges? Any advice or tips would be great. Thanks for your time. Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420

I do it all the time for finishing the exterior of custom drums I make. Blue painters tape is all you need, and some newspaper or typing paper to span the area between the edges. Make sure you prevent the finish from going though the lug mounting holes. And make sure you don't leave the tape on an exterior lacquered finish (if it's noy a wrap0 for more than a day or 2 - it can bond with the finish & pull it up when taking the tape off.
