How common are "Fantasia Pearl" kits?

Loading...

Hey guys;

Picked up this Stewart kit a while back on impulse. A quick bit of reading says this wrap was only used by Star for about 6 years in the late 60s and early 70s. This wrap doesn't come up for sale in my area very often, this is only the second kit I have seen pop up in the last 5 years or so.

How uncommon is this wrap? I know a few guys here have kits similar to this, pipe up if you have one. How many pieces? Matching snare? Make? Where you are located?

Mine is a 4 piece, 13, 16, 20, w/ a steel 10 lug snare. Stewart. SW Ontario.

Your set is a very common finish to fine,if you paid more than 50.00 for the set you paid to much..I give you a 100.00 for the set..Laughing H iam just joking around..Yes that finish is a rare finish to fine NOT many of these set's are around i know of about 6 other's than your's so your's make 7 set's i know of.Stewart was a name that Star-[Tama}- used to sell the drums under..Of the 7 set's 4 of them have matching snares the other's have a chrome snare...I have been looking to years to fine one of these set's....Mikey

Hey Mike - I think I must have one from the same shipment. I'm in Ottawa, and have the exact same kit. Picked it up with a second, (12") rack tom, but this tom was in matching wmp, but with no 'Fantasia' graphic, (add-on? out of stock?). Long, double rail mount on kick, with no mount for L-arm. You have this lusted on Kijiji? Saw another one, (maybe the same one?) listed in Ontario not long ago with a cymbal or two, and at not a bad price as I recall. Was too far for me, and I already got one. Also saw matching snare, (6 lug) with another kit recently, aqua sparkle I believe. Mine is 10 lug, chrome also.

Oh, and Mike, that kit'd look great with a nice Stewart logo on the kick drum head. I'm about to have a few done in reverse, so I can try a white Stewart logo on black reso head. Think it should look sharp with the chrome bass hoops. Contact me if you're interested.

Here's a Star kit I picked up a few months ago.

The entire set including hardware was in A+ condition.

I haven't seen a lot of Fantasia's so I guess they're pretty rare.

Hello Drum Brothers....I have two fantasia kits...U.S. Mercury.......one of the kits has yellowed much more than the other. I have about 17 kits in storage and I'm not able to post any photos at this time. One of my kits has a matching snare......both kits have 20" bass drums. I haven't look at them in several years so I can give you very little info on all the particulars......but I'm sure I don't have a 14' tom.

Hi,

Ontario must have been the place that sold the most of these kits!

Here is a picture of my Stewart Fantasia kit (sorry for the sideways orientation) that I acquired in the last year.

It is a 20 kick, with 12 and 13 rack toms, 16 floor and a chrome 10 lug snare. The kick has never had a cymbal mount. The badges are the metal type. It came with original hardware from the second owner. The wrap is a little yellowed, but evenly at least so they all appear about the same.

This kit hasn't been detailed yet.....just haven't had the time!

If anyone wants to part with their matching snare to this kit, I'm all ears!

Bryan

This one sold here last week for around $250US. It had damage to the wrap on the BD unfortunately. It is a Swingstar badged kit. Forum member LucasB78 from this part of the world also has one.

Hey guys;

Thanks for the responses. To quickly answer a couple of questions; Yes, it does have a cymbal mount, but not an "L" arm style. It is off the bass drum in the pics because I am missing the top half of the mount but I still have it and it will be moving on with the kit. DaddyNowhere; I saw that kit too. It was a little too far for me as well, but a great deal. Someone scored on that kit. The pattern of the wrap isn't just squiggles on top of WMP. The wrap is actually mostly CLEAR, with small patches of WMP throughout. I slid coloured paper in behind the wrap and you can completely change the look of the wrap. It is too bad no one ever picked up this wrap to manufacture. It probably would look good with a "Stewart" logo on the front head but it is against everything I hold dear to actually spend money on these MIJ kits. I consider them "toys that look like drums" as opposed to actual instruments. Yes, they are for sale locally, I am selling them for my uncle, they have been in his basement for 20+ years.

So I guess it would be fair to say uncommon, but not rare?
