How about some Matador drums

Loading...

Hello teverson

I was wondering about the drums you mentioned seeing in New Hampshire?

They were Matador badges with the words by Gretsch on them?

I bought a carload of random Japanese shells more than half are in "salvage only" condition

I got six bass drums, seven snare drums three mounted toms, and one floor tom

One of the bass drums is a 22" eight lug Hoshino made drum

It has a black wrap on it and a "Dorado" badge also on the badge it reads By Gretsch made in Japan

Sorry about the blurred pictures I took several

I am not sure how to take a macro shot on my older digital camera

You are correct, and I was mistaken. It was/is Dorado by Gretsch. My confusion was that I knew they were Hoshino drums and the color of the badge, like gunmetal.

Kenny -

Those look like they are gonna be cool and fun for sure! You won't be able to play a gig without a compliment flying your way. Too bad about the extra holes, but better to have a shell with extra holes and good wrap (no cracks) than no shell at all!

You have a nice little group of orphans there. I would post a pic like that in the FS section if you indent on moving some - surely there are some select pieces in that group that people are looking for - nice ones.

I have a project Root Beer kit as well. A pending deal with another member and some fabrication ahead of me to convert a 14x10ish tom to a 6.5x14 snare - as it has the matching wrap and will be the 'matching' snare when I am done. In place of it, I have a 13 and a 16 I will run as toms. 14x10 too smal for FT and too big for a tom IMHO especially when I will be using a 20 inch BD.

Do indeed keep us posted with pics as you project progresses.

How does it sound now that you have good heads on there? Do any edgework?

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hello John,

Thanks very much I am happy with the way these Matador drums are shaping up

the extra holes are unfortunate but they do not really rattle me all that much

I really have no idea yet how they sound as I mentioned I very hastily rebuilt the resonant sides of each shell

and mounted heads only finger tight just to see how they were going to look

as for edge work, no I have not done anything like that yet

I would need the help of someone more skilled than I am to even attempt that
