Hoshino Question -

Loading...

So as far as I am aware there were two different companies named Hoshino that made drums. Well I had a customer today tell me that they were in fact the same company and that this was done as a means of tax evasion ( something along those lines ) but that they are in fact the same company. Can anyone shed some light on this information?

I suppose that anything is possible since none of us know for certain

still I would need much more than one fellow's say so to convince me of that Jay

There are too many differences in the Hoshino made kits and those built by Star

for them to come from one company.

I think that it was a common thing to mistake the two as one

simply on the name Hoshino appearing for both companies

Also I have read from very well experienced MIJ experts that these same Hoshino made kits were actually made by Pearl ..which is something I also respectfully disagree with

Another factor that would tend to convince me otherwise is the timeline

If Star (Hoshino gakki) and "Hoshino"are indeed one and the same

And we know that Star was the first to discontinue with stencil drum building

and we know Hoshino continued making stencil kits long after Star's departure

It just does not figure the two would or could be one and the same

If this were so? then all those post-Star Pearl made re-badged kits

with former Star built names on them like Stewart and Tempo should have all been Hoshino builds also

Yea I didn't buy what he was selling but I figured I'd toss it out, and that you likely of all people knew. Something else I plan on doing is getting in touch with both Pearl & Tama and let them know of my plans. perhaps they ( highly unlikely, but never know ) have a list of the stencil names they produced. At the very lwast Tama can 100% confirm or deny having any involvement with the other Hoshino.

Thank you gentleman. I knew there were three companies and indeed two different Hoshino companies. But It's always good to get the reassurance and information from others.

Thanks to this thread and some Google Translate exploration, I now know "hoshino" means "star" in Japanese.
