Hoping to snag a Ludwig Mach 5 today!! Last viewed: 6 hours ago

From K.O.

The mach drums were no different from any of Ludwigs other drums of the time they just had the one piece high tension style lugs installed in place of the normal pair of lugs for each tension point. Same shells and finishes. You could put together any sort of set you wanted with those lugs as a special order.

This is true except for one thing – in my kit at least, there is only one hole drilled into the shell per lug-side, whereas normal classic lugs have two holes per side. Not much difference of course, but still.

Oooo, mach love! I just got myself a 76 mach lugged luddy. 26-15-20 in green sparkle. I'm in love! I know it's really unlikely, but I'd love to find a matching 16 or 18.

Very nice!! This would have been a special ordered kit back in the day...Those sizes must rock!! The 20" FT must rumble...Enjoy!!

Cheers

youre both right. the lug pattern for two classic lugs is not the same as the pattern for one high tension lug. the shells were the same, like ko mentioned, but they would be drilled for the proper lug. that could be classic lugs, clubdate lugs, mach lugs,etc..

Actually, I was almost totally wrong - there's only one hole per side on my rack tom. Both the floor and the kick have two holes per side, though they are in different spots than they would be for classic lugs.

Also just found out that the unpainted interior of my floor tom isn't maple! It's beautiful - is it mahagony?

Yes, they are drilled differently, in the same way the Club Dates are. I meant they are the same (all three) in all the construction features of the shell (woods, edges, hoops, wraps) but have different lugs installed, but lugs that don't necessarily interchange.
