Hollywood "President" by Meazzi - Part 1

Here are a few pics of a very rare and unique set I coudn't resist getting once I came across it: a Hollywood ?President? made by Meazzi.

This set was produced by Meazzi in Milan, Italy in the late sixties and early seventies.

Max Roach, Jack DeJohnette and Billy Cobham were endorsers and contributed to the popularity of that italian brand which doesn't exist anymore.

The particularity of this model is its tom-tom.

It has a pedal and was called the Multisound tom-tom.

It works pretty much the same way timpani do and opens a whole world of effects and possibilities.

I remember when Hollywood 'mutated' into 'Hi-Percussion' in the early 80's and made huge concert tom kits from plastic (!!!!) with the floor timp/tom. Plus the whole kit had a fabulous modular mounting system for the for tims, like multi articulated tom arm and the whole shebang was mounted on the bass drum - which was on wheels! A bit like a modern version of the 20/30's console kits.

The Meazzi snare drum stand was quite something too, I've not seen anything nearly as good since.

that tymp-tom is AWESOME!!! Whats the value of your set?

I would love to get a tymp-tom. do you think its possible

to make?

I'm pretty sure that you could find someone over at the Ghostnote forum to build you one. Some of the builders there are amazing.

Yamaha made its own version for a short time but has stop producing it.

As far as the value is concerned it's difficult to say. That set is very rare but is also not very known. It depends on the collectors I guess.

I would say problably in the range of a Gretsch from that era if not more.
