Hi ! New member, here..

My name is John Archer. I finally figured out how to join this site.

I have played drums since I was four years old. I'm now 52. I own a

4-pc. 1966 Lugwig blue sparkle set with a custom-made 14 x 8 Wood-shelled snare with help from Precision Drum in new york. It matches the set

very well. I also own a 1966 Gretsch Champagne sparkle set with a matching

additional 20" bass. My father bought the set new in 1966. Have a question

for you Slingerland experts: I play drums in my church. The church owns a

1970's S-land Purple sparkle set 12/13/16/22. The rack toms have reinforcing

rings as well as the 16" floor tom, but these toms were never drilled for bottom rims/hoops. The bass has no outer reinforcement ring or outer head.

The inside of this bass has an aluminum wrap inside of the shell. The research

I've done seems to show that this is a rare set of drums. I took the entire

set apart a yaer ago and cleaned and polished them, and they look as good as new!! I 'd like some input (Frank Sarro) if possible or anyone else to help

me get more information on this set and the rarity of its color. Any help

would be appreciated! Thank You!! John Archer Ohio.

Purple sparkle is a one of the rare finishes, but concert tom drums drop the rarity and value down..

With most vintage drums double headed drums are worth more then concert toms..

I do understand you are not asking a question about that, but I thought I would throw that out there...

You say there is an aluminum wrap inside of the bass drum shell? Hmmm..

Here is a section on the main web site about Slingerland drums

Still a nice set, but not up there like other Slingerland's in different sizes and even rarer finishes...

By the way, what is the snare drum?

On some of the early '70s single headed bass drums, Slingerland sometimes either painted or put some sort of lining in the bass drum. Sounds like what you have.

If the concert toms don't have the metal rings, a collector might still pay decent price for them as they could easily be converted to double headed toms.
