Help With MIJ ID

Loading...

I hoping someone can tell me which brand of MIJ this 20 and 13 are. It's a really cool looking wrap that the photos don't quite pick up. They really sparkle. Typical Luan vertical pattern.

I picked these up in a deal with some other stuff I wanted and am looking to move them. I'd like to at least know what to call them. It looks like the badges are missing.

Thanks!

I'd like to add that the tom holder bracket with the L-arm and the cymbal arm bracket (at the bass drum) seem to be later add-ons and not original.

Thank you Ralf for weighing in. I was going to contact you about these drums, but you got to them first!

So to be clear, you don't believe the mount on the rack tom is correct? Should it have a spade instead of L-arm? I've attached a photo of the interior of the tom. I don't see any extra holes.

I was trying to date this kit so I could determine what kind of bass drum spurs (legs) it should have. They were not included with the kit. The previous owner had a couple of different hoop mount spurs. Neither set of spurs seem to work that well. Do you know if the bass drum mounts are correct on this drum? It looks like these mounts are for spurs similar to Ludwig's gull wing spurs.

I will say that the mounts for the tom and cymbal holder are the EXACT same mounts for the bass drum spurs.I thought I saw some photos of Star drums on your website from around 1967 with these mounts. Any ideas?

Thanks.

That all looks factory to me...does the mounted tom have the tiny t-rod threads? Almost like #10 fine thread screws? I sold a set of those lugs and none of the rods I had would thread in them. I believe the second generation Star "teardrop" lugs with the flange had standard 12-24 rods. Those are really cool, by the way. All there...

Thanks! I'll check the threads on those tension rods. I really see no noticeable mods other than the missing badges.

I'll be listing these to sell soon...cheap. Wish I had the floor tom and bass spurs. I do have the cymbal L Arm. It is very long.

This is curious. Neither the L-arm nor the floor tom style brackets, as bass drum spur brackets, I've seen at any Star bass drum before.

You say there are no extra holes ... No idea ...

But my best guess, again, is that someone had mounted floor tom brackets as replacements ... This style of bass drum spurs holders (for 'L-spurs'?) never existed at Star - as far as I know.

If it's really genuine, it should be a one of a kind thing.

Greetings, Ralf

Okay, thanks. If there are extra holes, they're not visible, they're hidden under hardware. I have not taken any of the mounts off to see if there are extra holes underneath them.
