Does anyone know when Ludwig changed their tom muffling system from the baseball bat style to the round knob internal tone control?

Also what year did they stop using the internal tone control?

I'm going to kinda guess it was around 1967, based on what I've seen, but

hopefully somebody here knows for sure.

Not sure on that...

I think it was actually early 1968. They stpped using white paint around then as well. I'm sure they are out there but I don't think I have ever seen a late 60's clear interior drum with a ball bat muffler. All the ball bat muffler Ludwigs I have seen had white paint. I have seen many many a Ludwig too!

As far as stopping the mufflers, I think they stopped sometime in the late 80's. I think they can be special ordered though. On my two newer CM Ludwig sets, I ordered the snared with mufflers.

I think that's it...1968 seems to be a transition year. I have a set of Hollywoods from '68 serials which have white paint, and bb mufflers, and a set of Super Classics from the same year with no white paint, and round knob mufflers...

Thanks guys!

I'm trying hard to date my restoration, so I get it 100% right.

It's been so badly messed with that it's near impossible to date accurately.

I'd be happy just to narrow it down!
