Help with identity of snare drum

Loading...

I've recently come into posession of a 5x14, chrome slingerland snare that closely resembles a late model Krupa Sound King but isn't brass. It has a 1970 transition badge on it and the grommet is loose but appears to be factory. It has a Zoomatic strainer (#979 w/ #980 butt plate) and the three grooves around the center of the drum. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about this drum (sorry no pics, digital camera's busted). As always, thanks for your time.

Well a 1970 Slingerland steel shell with 3 lines would be a definite factory wrinkle, regardless of strainer. But there is a long list of Slingerland "one'sy-two'sy" wrinkles. Does a magnet stick to the shell? And is the bearing edge flange at a 45 degree angle or so, or is it flat crimped against the shell?
