Hi fellas. I've recently acquired this snare drum from ebay. The seller was honest to state that he didn't know what brand it is. But for a low price I thought what the heck, why not? From the pictures it all seems like a Pearl snare either the Deluxe or Standard snare from the late 60's. I saw the lugs and color (Blue Grain Pearl) in the 1969 catalog, but maybe it could be a later model, probably a lower end like the Popular model. Anyway upon receiving the snare I noted that it's not the 9 ply version (Deluxe or Standard model) but from what I can count a 5 ply with reinforcement hoops (the Popular model maybe?). I cannot identify the wood, but it does smell like cheap wood. Also what I noticed is that the finishing of the wood is quite poor, there's a small gap at one section connecting to the reinforcement hoop (see photo). There's no snare bed either. The wrap is tacked at two points with a nail and the wrap is not cut straight either. It almost looks like home made. So I'm thinking it might be a stencil snare with Pearl hardware or knock offs. I hoped that there might have been 2 little holes where the Pearl badge would have been tacked on but there aren't any. I'm at a loss. Can anyone shed a light here please? Thanks!

I'm no expert but the lugs and throw look like Star.
Most pearl stencils I've seen from that era have gaps where the plies meet but I don't know much about the shells with rings.
One of the REAL experts will chime in shortly I'm sure.
Nice snare BTW.

MIJ for sure. Looks like a Tempro or one of those Pearl made offshoots...

It could be a Tempro as well indeed. I just saw in a different forum an exact same snare in the exact same color with the Tempro badge, also tacked with 2 nails.
