Help with Identification

Hi Folks,

Please see the attached picture. I have no idea what this kit could be, and it's the only info that i have to go on.

From what i can see, the snare seems to have di-cast hoops, and are obviously offset.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers, Phil

I don't know what it is but it looks like a cool old set and certainly worth polishing up and playing out with it.

I think this is a Star drum set. It is definitely a MIJ kit. With a good clean up and new heads it should sound real nice. I would say 3 to 4 hundred would be a fair price. It looks like it is all original and in pretty good shape and the bottom hoops are still attached, which is a plus, dont find that very often. Not sure on the date of the kit, but it looks early 60s to me. Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable guys will come in soon and correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks for the input folks. I almost thought it may be an old Sonor kit, but hard to tell.

The seller is asking $100 or best offer, complete with everything in the photo! Think I may snap this one up

Cheers

For $100, it looks like you can't go wrong! I too, think it is MIJ, but probably well worth the $100 asking price...especially if that snare is indeed something other than MIJ, like an old Sonor! Best of luck.

Okay, I dove on this one. 2 prior views on Kijiji when I responded, asking if there were any cymbals, badges, and when would be a good time to come by for a look. Didn't hear back until hours later, but it gave me some time to do some research - most right here on VDF. From looking at the shot, I'd recognized what appeared to me to be Ajax, Bullet lugs on the snare and floor tom. The kick, and rack appear to be Hoshino by the lugs, though I'm not sure about the t-rods on kick. Don't know a lot about the British stuff, but the few that I've had, I've been quite impressed with, so I researched the snare, as Ajax, and immediately found two, almost identical on ebay, both listed for about $300.00. When I finally heard back, I was told, yes there are cymbals and the brand was 'Edgware', however, they had someone coming to look at the drums, 'tomorrow', but if it fell through they would let me know. Looked up Edgware, and found the link to Ajax. Snare appears complete, though you can't see strainer in pic, and it looks like the matching floor tom, (16"?) though the tom appears to have lost it's original, die cast hoops. Had been keeping my eyes open for word back, but ad has since been removed... Wha hoppen? Who managed to squeeze in there before me - one of the prior '2 views'? Was it you wooltonboy? Not too disappointed - really don't have the $100.00 right now, or the need for any more, semi-valuable orphans, but I do hate to see a nice deal get away, and that snare might have been sweet.
