Hi everyone,

needing your help/information and valuation of an old Yamaha kit from the 70's.

I have had the kit for about 16 years as it was my first kit i ever bought (Not new as im only 33) it was a mirror gold wrap when i got it and i took that off and slapped varnish on the shells!! i thought it looked good.i was 15! lol so it was varnished with drips and everything until last month i stripped it back and hand waxed it. Shells are fine although i had to lose the 13" tom as there was a tension crack in it (although i still have the shell and fittings) so its now a 3pc sizes are 20, 12, 14ft close up there is pitting on the die cast rims but it shines up well as you can see

Anyway, i know nothing about this kit as i cant find any info about them! the D20 is the closest with badges and lugs the same but different bass/tom mount. this one has a T bar with two balls attached to it. its a stunning little kit and perfect for Jazz but im not sure how much to put it up for sale for as it must go and the last thing i want to do is over price it :)

Many thanks

Jamie

Nice players kit... I play my early Y badge kits out all the time.... they sound great. Looks to be an early hex mount which is cool. I haven't seen many of those. I imagine your mount looks like these photos I have on file. (these were labeled as 1978... but in this pic the drum looks like it has the next generation badge) Sorry, I don't know the exact year... I imagine yours is mid 70's... the last of the Y badges? Someone here may have a more exact date.

Wait... why sell them, if they're your first kit and a prety good one at that?

I guess (as others have) this is a later y badge kit.

The mount style and having two rack toms with a 20" bass and 14" FT is a bit unusual for the early catalog. But, the lugs are the same as on my kit.

The D-20 was a 12-14-20-sn and the D-22 was 12-13-16-22-sn. You apparently have 12-13-14-20-sn, which I haven't seen before (but I'm far from an expert!)

It also appears you have holes for a muffler on the batter side of the BD, which I also don't have. Was that factory, or added later?

many thanks so far guys, appreciated millions

Gilnar, im selling it along with the rest of my collection of drums and cymbals as i can no longer play due to a shoulder injury so no point in me keeping it all. So at least i had all the stock i needed to open my new "Pre-loved" drum shop here in Edinburgh :) i think the link to our f/b page is in my signature now if anyone wants a look at my vintage premiers that are up for sale :)

My tom holder is different to that on in the picture! i was going to take a picture of it today but got wrapped up in removing some Aquamarine GG from a pre inter Premier bass drum, but will take a picture of tom holder tomorrow

yes i removed the mufflers when i first removed the wrap i still have them and forgot to say i still have the badges from the tom and floor tom i just aint got round to putting them back on yet :)

So has anyone got an idea about how much this may be worth as i have had a few people in the shop interested but i have had to say its just for display at the moment :(

Huge thanks again for your help with this Clapping Happy2

That's neat that they put a (I assume??) regular tom/snare muffler on the batter head of the bass drum... I have never seen that before!

It might be...

I know they had several different ones within a short time span until they finally settled on the ball and socket that still remains to this day.

Those outer holes in the plate are threaded right? If so, that was/is for bolts to go under the mount once in place, to keep it from 'sagging' in use. Pretty clever!

.... cool twin mount. Enclosed a pic of what looks like a single tom version of your mount.

Yamaha made many versions of the rail mount and center mount. They seemed to change almost every year. Keeps it interesting.

... as far as value goes, Ive seen these kits with original wraps sell for $300 - $650. Depends on condition and who is looking for one at the time. Kits with the matching snare and/or original hardware are at the higher end. Missing the wrap... yours is most likely at the lower end. Having original parts help. Do you have the original BD T rods? Those look like Ludwig.

good luck with your sale... they make nice players kits.
