Help to value snare drums

Loading...

Hi everyone - I was recommended to your forum and hope you can help me.

I have recently retired as a music teacher and a local school wants to buy my 3 snare drums - but I can't find any information that will help me to price them.

Two of the drums have a beech frame that says " Premier New Era'. One has a 'Premier MS head and the other has a 'Premier Ever Play'. They are identical in size : 4 and a half inches high and 12 and a half inches diameter. I bought them for my work in schools around the mid 1980's

The third snare drum is larger: almost 7 inches high and 14 inches across. It looks like the shell is wooden on the inside with a brownish red 'wood effect' outer coating. There are no identifying marks on the body of the drum but one head says " Ever-play extra and the snare head is a " Remo - weather King ambassador snare - made in USA. This drum was given to me by the former percussionist of the Royal Philharmonic orchestra - about 25 years ago.

I would love our local school to use these as they've been stored in a cupboard for a while - but at the same time I don't want to give them away and would really appreciate your thoughts as to how much I could expect to sell them for.

It is impossible to evaluate any musical instrument without first seeing it. For each of your drums you need to supply several side pictures , to include the badge(if present) and throwoff mechanism( if present) and then a view of the top, the bottom and an interior shot. Someone on this forum might be able to give you a good estimate of their value, then.

Yep, Pictures please... lots of pictures. Inside the shell, outside same, and all the hardware. Ignore the heads at this time. It's only if they are original to the drum will the heads mean anything at all. Like calfskin said: Pictures and accurate shell measurements (not including the hoops / rims). You may want to use a tape measure or stick beside the shell in the pictures.

The first 2 snares you describe are Premier New Era, likely 6 lug with triple flsange rims, not worth alot and were used to teach in elementary schools. The 3rd snare sounds almost like a Premier Mahogany Duraplastic snare but would need pictures to confirm.
