the seller claims this set to be a Hollywood set, but was the psychedelic red finish applied to Hollywood set? secondly, it has white interiors and dates: bass drum ( apr 25 1964): 544585,

13" rack (mar 26 1968) 712014,

16" floortom (mar 1968) 765881

bass drum has a cymbalholder mount, though I knew the Hollywood sets had two rack toms...?

To my knowlege there was no psycho nuthin' in '64.That finish didn't happen till about ' 68 because people were taking LSD at the time. They threw red and orange color values into the oyster matrix.A double tom set of the late sixties didn't have a cymbal mount on the bass.Where's the room?.There are exceptions of course because of the robotic standards and hardware stock on hand .Woulda had to been there.A ' 64 drum with an LSD plastic wrap is a rewrap. The others should be original.

May be, but the reason for this statement was about the wrap color. Those shells that Mr. Ludwig refers to were complete shells, wrapped and ready. The Psych colors were not made in the early 60s, so a shell of that color likely would not have had a stamp from 64, that is the point being made sir. Typically, you would see colors like blue sparkle, red sparkle, silver sparkle all stacked on the shelves. Since those shells were made by the millions, those would have been stacked high and by the thousands. Colors like the psychs and mods were not produced until later in the 60s, therefore would not fall into this category of drums, in this time period. They would have been stacked and ready, only later, when the colors became available. That is the point these members are making.

BTW, would you please post pix of your drums? And the seam on the 64 shell especially?

That's bizzare for sure! Psych red first appeared around June of 1967 and it is odd to see that 1964 date stamp in the bass drum! I wonder if the stamper inked the wrong date! That is very strange!

The badge #'s put the drums in 67-68 and 69.I can't explain the 64 stamp. It does not compute,Will Robinson.

A couple things. The cymbal mount is in the wrong place. The bass Tom mount is a bit off. The wrap appears to be poorly cut at the shell seam, i.e. There seems to be a gap between the wood seam and the start of the wrap. The badges have extreme uneven aging, which implies these drums were exposed to very different environs. Personally, I question the authenticity of the kit. Others can formulate their own opinions.

jjnews, this thread is Matiz thread. He asked some questions about a kit. Those questions were answered as truthfully as we could determine from the information given.

If you are angry about this, you should consider a very important fact:

this is your kit. You can do with it as you please. No person on this Earth has any right to tell you what to do with your own kit. Enjoy it and wrap it or leave it or fill it with water and watch the fish swim. Doesn't matter. Have a blast.

From jjnews

Hi again!Mystery continues..I took some photos of the bass drum wrap seam and it goes inside the wood. So this cant be rewrap? http://picasaweb.google.fi/105626530282891405486/PsycRed#Stamp is 1964 and cymbal mount is definitely bit wrong place. Did Ludwig ever manufactured virgin bass drums and tomholder and cymbalholder has installed afterwards?Or maybe cymbal mount has installed afterwards and this was originally Hollywood set with two toms, but one tom has disappereded.I know there are many question marks of this set, but if its not rewrap, what is it:)

Actually, it can be a rewrap. I did a snare rewrap and got the wrap right on in there. It can be done.

But, I'm not sure this is because the pics are still blurry.

The date stamp could be brought into question. The mounts are wrong. Blah blah blah. There are still too many items out to consider this authentic. If you want a real answer, take it in to Steve Maxwell or one of those biggies and let them dissect it. You will get accuracy from someone who can put their hands on it and check it out. These pics are only going to exacerbate the situation. Good luck.
