Hi.. The wires are probably the originals and the tension screws are going to be the 2" variety.. Re the heads I am not sure .. May have just been those with the rectangular Slingerland Sticker or a Remo badged which also had the Slingerland sticker.. Have seen both but I do not know when the change of heads took place.. Someone on here will know .. (Blair may have the tension screws as well).

Thank you longjohn. I'd like input on a fair asking price for the 24 inch Slingy bass drum shell and 2 matching hoops. With some TLC, they cleaned up nicely, but are definitely project pieces. The shell has original holes for 4 spurs. It appears there is holes for a tom mount, but I can't tell if they were done later. For some reason, there is no badge, while the one I'm keeping has 2 spurs and a badge....The hoops came apart at the factory joint dovetails but there is no other signs of abuse. One hoop has the chrome inlay. There is a letter "M" on the interior meaning lacquer, if I understand the VDF info.
I'd rather sell here than the 'bay...just want a fair price so a fellow drummer can benefit from what I understand are sought after 3 ply maples....

someone will take it on as a challenge but whatever they come up with... down here in Oz it would probably sell for triple... due to lack of available stock..

Dean are you sure you'll never use that 24" shell? It looks really nice, maybe tuck it away for a rainy day? This way if unexpected problems come up with the shell your using you have a backup.
BTW for the veneer patches I'd just use maple since that's the inner ply on those shells. I did a outer veneer patch on one of my floor toms. I used holley veneer as my son had a spare piece kicking around the shop. And the drum is getting wrapped. So color was not critical in my case. I'd think the maple veneer is pretty cheap to buy. What size (length and width) piece do you need for the bass? I can see if my son has something around the shop for you if you like? You can try to use the piece you cut out, you might be able to flatten it. But if it's too far gone best to replace it.
BTW here's what I did. I squared off the damaged ply area. And removed the rest of what was left. In my case the outer mahogany ply lifted off when the original WMP was removed long ago. I had 2 areas to fix one in the middle and one by the bearing edge. Worked very well. Just be carefull not to cut too deep. You'll get a feel for it.

Honestly I'm wish-washy on what to do...I could really use the $$ from a potential sale to fund the good number of parts I need for the rest of the set....I also planned to sell the 12 inch tom. It's been sprayed and looks good. I was going to buy hoops and a reso head and it would be ready for sale. The 13 inch tom is being sprayed any day now.....
I'll sleep on it.....anyone else want to chime in, lay it on me.....

Been following this project. How did the Vinegar work for you? I always keep a bottle of that white vinegar I get at the dollar store. It definitely removes the rust from those screw, washers, lugs, springs, tension rods. If the chrome is gone it's gone. I would not worry about the lug screws, washers and springs not being shiny as long as the rust is gone. They are the original parts and will not be seen inside the drum unless you use clear heads which I would not.
Any rust on lugs should come off too. Good luck, looking good so far. I may be interested in that 12" Tom. I need one for my Slingerland set.
Hey vibes, you were next on my reply hit list...yes, the vinegar worked quite well. It took away the rust as you said and also as you said, when the chrome is gone, it's gone. So if there's too many "black voids" or holes where the chrome was, I simply opt for replacements at that point. What a great piece of advice. Seems this will be my preferred method from now on...
