Help! Shipping a 26" drum Last viewed: 21 hours ago

Loading...

I need to ship my 14x26 kick drum - having a horrible time finding a sturdy box big enough to hold it... anyone got advice on where to find one? I have considered appliance boxes, etc. but they are all too big and would need to be cut down, etc.

My local music store has never stocked anything over a 22", so they are of no help.

I've considered writing to DW and seeing if they can ship me an empty (flattened) box... anyone ever done something like that?

Any advice is welcome.

Maybe try a furniture store, I have been lucky that way before.

I would just cut down a bigger box...Try and find a box that would leave enough cardboard leftover after cutting to line the inner space of the box to make it double walled...

Cheers

Agree with grantro and pour in lots of styro popcorn as a cushion inside the box. Never hurts to over protect-we love our drums !!!

Try the UPS store if there is one near you. I think uhaul sells boxes also.

Go to your UPS Terminal and get two 24x24x24 boxes you'll have too cut the boxes into one big 28x28x20" box a big time PIA but that is what I had to do recently for a 28" bass drum I shipped.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I had a heck of a time finding boxes to ship a 24" in, can't even imagine a 26"! Keep in mind, the box may be subject to oversize shipping charges.

Watch out for the UPS store. Yes, they do have boxes, but totally overpriced. Tried to tell me they wanted almost $10 for an 18 cubed box!

I HATE that popcorn!Got it all over my floor yesterday unpacking my latest drum endeavor. The cats had a great time chasing around. With cold weather came static electricity and floating popcorn.I know it is necessary!Just venting.

Back to subject. It is pretty easy w/o an engineering degree to build a box out of several smaller boxes good luck and remember there are other forms of packing materials.Cool1

P-tone....

Yes,you are right about Ups store....they charge almost double of what u-Haul does on boxes.....and 1 was single wall...as opposed to u-haul's double wall....

I am lucky...I have a guy that will make any size box ....within reason...and delivers it to my door...for $10 each....

If it takes a week or more...he brings them and gives them to me for free!

I have had him make me a 30-30 -20 double wall to ship a 26" BD to New Zealand once.....

I had to ship a 26" bass drum and the price for a box at UPS was $40 so I went to an appliance store and the guy said take all you want, the're out back. I took a refrigerator box. It had nice styrofoam corners inside, grabbed a bunch more Styrofoam, went home and cut it down. Perfect and free!
