Help! Rogers Advise Needed Quickly

Loading...

Hello all you Rogers' "gurus" out there!

I desperately need your expertise and recommendations ASAP.

I've got a chance to pick up a 70s Rogers 5-piece kit with all Swiv-O-Matic hardware, but I've got to let the seller know by this Saturday evening whether or not I want to make the purchase.

The kit's in a Butcher Block finish, which I realize that most "purists" don't seem to like (although I do!). I haven't measured the individual drums as of yet, but I believe that the kit includes the following configurations:

8x12 & 9x13 rack toms;

16x16 floor tom;

14x22 bass drum; and

5x14 Dyna-Sonic Snare

All the shells and hardware looks immaculate.

I'm trying to find out what a "fair" price would be for this kit.

Any and all comments, recommendations, advise, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated. Since I don't have any type of Rogers kit in my meager collection, I'm like a fish out of water on this one.

AS USUAL............. thanks in advance for your time and your help!D' Drummer

I just received some additional information regarding the Rogers Kit:

It was built in 1972, DEFINITELY has all Swiv-O-Matic hardware, and the owner's confirmed the sizes I had listed in my initial post.

Included with the five drums is the original Rogers snare stand, high hat stand, and one cymbal stand.

I've been asked to make my "best offer."

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is the Dyna a COB? If that's the case, with the butcher block finish, on this set hmmmmmmm. This is probably a 9/72 set which has nothing to do with the date of manufacture. Depending on condition I wouldn't go much over $600. If the snare has all the parts and is in great condition I would go somewhat higher. If it's a wood Dyna (probably not) that's a whole different story. I've never seen a butcher block Dyna so if Rogers did make one it's very, very rare. Wood snare...probably $2000 and up.

Hard to tell without seeing them or pictures at least.

Good luck and keep us posted on the results.

Hey, Jack,

Appreciate your input!

The Dyna-Sonic is a COB.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of the kit but I can assure you that the finish is in near mint condition.

Unless I'm mistaken, the interior of the shells are coated with a type of grey-speckled compound.

When Rogers made the move to Fullerton, or maybe back to Fullerton from Mexico, they had a paper tag made with 9/72 on it. They used that tag for several years. They just made drums and weren't too concerned with tags or serial numbers.

If it's in near mint condition you might consider bidding higher. A Dyna in near mint condition can bring $300 to $500 alone. You might want to shoot him a $700 offer and see what he thinks. Butcher block is not a very popular finish with collectors so you should point that out when you offer. I see them all the time on ebay not selling for a $500 ask. If you like the finish they're worth whatever you are willing to pay.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning, Jack,

I contacted the seller and got a chance to take a closer look at the kit.

The Dyna-Sonic, although in excellent condition, is missing its original snare frame. The current owner of the kit informed me that the "least" amount that he would even consider for the kit would be $775.00.

Since I'm more of a collector than a "player" at the present time, perhaps I'll pass on these and continue searching for a more "collectible" drum and/or kit.

Probably a real smart move. If the Dyna isn't complete then I don't think the set would be worth more than $500.

Butcher Block just so does not appeal to me. The kit would have to be in absolutely stellar condition, with the PERFECT and RARE size combinations, and even cheap for what it is, before it would get any real consideration. And that is sad, because ....... well, simply because its Rogers that I love.
