These drums have been on this site before....but, please someone buy them - before I have to lol.
They seem too cool for me to resist....but the shipping is costly for me....maybe not too costly though.
The BD has no badge (I've asked) and No hat stand or pedal.
The finish is what's grabbing me here. It is pretty nice.
I think $1000 is a fare price.....thoughts on the worth and/or any other comments from the Forum Brothers and Sisters are most welcome.

Can you give me some more details on the finish/drums and maybe some history if you know some. I'm thinking hard about buying these. In fact if I was in New York State...near where the drums are....within a few hours....I'd be over there looking hard and probably buy them.
I don't think I qualify as a 'collector' - I just like the look and feel and sometimes the sound of a lot of these old drums - and some new ones.
It feels so good to open a package and see an old drum - clean it gently and play it - bring it back to life.
Any more comments that you can add feel free either here, P.M. or email - I'm open to what ever's on your mind regarding these drums.
Like I said - the drums are $1000 - and they seem to be worth that from the photos I've seen. I've heard some critisizm on that point - the price. For instance - you can buy a complete new Gretsch Catalina kit = nice drums no question - for almost 1/2 that. My answer to that is .......there are 1000's of Catalina kits out there - and I think that's great - but, there might only be a handful....maybe less....of these drums out there. I'm thinking they would sound pretty good too (in a Primus video maybe?)...
All kidding aside - I'm brainstorming here and hoping my good Vintage friends can talk me into or out off going for this. There is a ton of experience with Vintage drums and gear on this Forum. It's got a reputation for that - awesome hu.

They look like a set that will clean up nice...When this task is done, they definitely will take on an aura all their own...And sound great too!! Sorry, I can`t offer much wisdom with this era of Gretsch...
I believe that if you thought this hard about it and inquired about them, that little voice inside you wants to buy them!! If you don`t, you may be kicking yourself in the arse down the road...Just my opinion - take it as a grain of salt...YOU have the tough chore of making that decision...And it is a tough one...And besides, there is an obo after that $1000 price tag!! This could help offset the shipping charges...

Yes - I pondered the obo of her ad but you know....I think the drums are worth what she's asking and I don't feel comfy asking her to take less.
Maybe I should just retire and take a road trip out to New York......gawd that'd be nice! I'd probably end up in Steve Maxwell's drum shop, sell my car and ship some of his drums home and hitchhike back haha. Hm, that actually sounds good. Could turn out like the time I hitchhiked From Kelowna BC to Mexico in the 70's.........now that was a trip!.....I just thought about something here.....= I sold a 5pc 1969 Gretsch kit - Sunset Satin Flame - , cymbals and hardware & cases....to fund that trip to Mexico...wow....that's deep.
Gary, This is what i think the drums are older than WW2 years maybe 1946-48.I can't re-call the name of the finish -[i can up it up for you in the Gretsch catalogs i have}-Finish looks to be B.D.P. with a W.M.P. in the center of the drums. Just a few things make my think on how good is the condition listed states drums are not warped and need re-skinning for what i see in the photos it looks like the bass drum head need to be replace but what about the bottom heads on the toms? Also photo # 3 looks like the lug on the tom is bad..If you are thinking about buying them i would go look at them in person or have someone who kinows drums do it....Mikey
Going to need work if you want them to appear and sound suitable for today,but what a nice slice of history to own. I think 750 would be easier to swallow and if i could afford the space they neeed i,d be picking them up.

I also was confused by Mikey's reference to 1946-1948 being "older" than WW2 vintage (maybe he was thinking of the Korean War?). I'm no Gretsch expert, but all the hardware on this set closely resembles the 1946 WMP Gretsch set I bought in 1970, with the exception my bass and toms had tensioned resonant heads. This set listed must be pre-war (late 30's?)
