Considering this kit. Seller says its a Gretsch. Its not. Can anyone tell by the way the tom mount is what brand of drums these are? They look to have been re-wrapped or something....Lugs are either Slingerland or MIJ copies. Floor tom leg mounts look like Slingerland. Bass drum spurs look like Slingerland.

It comes with a Slingerland student steel snare from the 70's.

Hmm...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Definitely CB or Pearl-esque tom mounts.

Repro Slingerland lugs?

Dubious origins...

Bd claws sure look slingerland too don't they?

Im thinking someone re-wrapped a slingy kit in white and put stupid tom mounting hardware on it. Im waiting on pics of the insides of the shells...

Yeah, they do; however, if they're trying to pass this off as a Gretsch, G'd knows what else they're trying to pull over...

But, it could be a Slingy with some really bad tom hardware.

Maybe these are Slingerland "Spirit"drums with triple-flange hoops instead of stick savers. There is no 4-piece set listed in the catalog pages, but I suppose it's possible.Luan construction with Slingy hardware.

Maybe.

The seller doesn't know what they are. No badges. They look re-wrapped. The measurements are hilarious in the ad:

16 inch bass drum

13 inch floor tom

14 inch rack tom

13 inch snare

Id say its probably a 20/12/16 kit. 18/12/14 if Im losing my mind. The snare is DEFINITELY a 14 inch student model steel drum from the late 70's. The Ts on the bd look like the 60's Slingy T rods.

Anyone else care to guess? Im thinking of offering $100 and seeing what they say. Its been on CL now for about 2 weeks.

A C-note would be a good offer.

I just tend to think everyone is out to rip off an un- or under-educated buyer. So I think this cat is trying to pull something over on everyone else.

Yeah- it is a poor and jaded attitude.

Yeah. I think $100 is fair not really knowing whats up with them. Might be pleasantly surprised. They are asking $300 tho so I doubt that they will take it.

Figure the snare is worth $50 and if the kit is garbage then Im not out anything. If its a crazy modded out Slingy then I guess the extra $50 ill spend in gas will be worth it. Im thinking of this as a kit for my nephew to start out on. Either way it would probably be sweet for him as a first kit.

$150 is the ceiling, as far as I am concerned. I wonder if these cats got snookered by an unscrupulous seller.

I would counter with $125 and see if you can't get somewhere south of $160. $150 would be every $$$...

Good luck!!!!

I have 2 guess on this set..To me the tom mount is a 70's C.B.700 or a good copy of a Pearl mount..For what i can see the t-rods on the bass look like M.I.J. copys of 60's Slingerlands..The lugs look like copys of Slingerland to me they like wider than Slingerland lugs...Guess 2 it could be a Slingerland set that someone did a number on re-cover wrong tom mount ete...You won't know till you see the inside of the shells...Mikey
