Help me date my vintage Rogers bass drum

Loading...

Hi there,

I am trying to date a 24 x 14 script badge Rogers bass drum in Koa finish. I have bought the kit, but not yet seen it, as it is in the USA and I am in New Zealand! I am pretty sure the drum is dated between 1970 and 1976. Can you provide a tighter estimate and advise whether this drum will have swivomatic or memoriloc mounting system.

Pics attached

Sorry I do not have more details....as I havent viewed the kit

My Rogers book shows KOA as a finish between 1973 and 1976,, so that might narrow it down a little more.

Not a Guru... just interested..

...and Script-badge dates it to pre-'75.

So, thus far, '73-75.

To get any closer, we'd need to know what sort of interior labels are on the shells...are they large almost business-card sized labels with a decorative border that reads 'Fullerton" somewhere ? ...or small, thin labels with the Big R, which does not ?

Does it have any hardware on it...tom mounts, spur mounts ?

OK, so Ive found the following ticket info:

Rogers Drums, USA

Serial number: A3291

And in small print on the edge of the ticket: 60-5322 9/72

Does that indicate 1972?

It has what appears to be swivomatic bass drum spurs/legs

Would make SENSE that it indicates '72...

but....

it doesn't. The 9/72 labels were around for a few years, actually...go fig'ya.

Plucked this off of a Rogers forum:

"Sorting out the Fullerton 9/72's:

According to Roob Cook (w/ assistance from Dan Colluccio and Bobby Chiasson) they went as follows:

All tags are marked "60-5322 9/72" in the lower left corner.

1972 No prefix letter, number underlined

1973 Prefix Letter "A" followed by numbers

1974 Prefix Letter "B" followed by numbers

1975 No prefix letter, number not underlined.

Ref. The Rogers Book Second Ed. pp. 129 "

So there you go...'yours' is the 9/72 A series tag, which dates them 1973....

Whew......Clapping Happy2

It's a good era of drum...late swivo, arguably the last of the classic Rogers kits. They were already starting to cut back by then, but they still had their most renowkned stuff intact. What are the rest of the sizes ? &... is there a snare ?

Ha! I have the exact same kit that I am going to be selling. What are the sizes of your rack and floor toms? What did you pay for the kit?

Check on eBay, advanced search compelted listings 'Rogers Koa'.

Believe it or not, those can fetch a pretty penny these days.
