Help identifying Vintage Pearl 60s kit

Loading...

Hi all,

So I was out walking the dog yesterday and came across this Kit (pictures to follow) sitting outside someone's house, rusting away. I knocked on the door but no answer, and hung around for a few hours but no one turned up so decided to take it home (I put a note through the door with my number just in case).

It's a Pearl kit and from looking at the badge, looks to be from the 60s era. The rims are rusted to hell but the shells and wrap seem to be in pretty good condition so I'm planning on restoring it.

I would love to get some more information on this kit. I've done a bit of digging but all I can find is that it's Japanese made (it says Made in Japan on it DOH) and that it's most likely from the 60s. After checking the vintage catalogue's, I can't find anything that looks like it. I thought at first that it was a super outfit (http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/my_collection/literature/pearl/1966-pearl-catalog-2.jpg) but the tension rods don't go the whole width of the drum in the catalogue yet mine do. So perhaps it is a mix of two kits?

Any info that anyone has or help identifying this kit would be much appreciated! Also any tips on restoration would be great!

Welcome to the site! Good news is the wrap looks good, but some of the hardware looks toasted. Parts look workable, so you can at leat get it back to playable. I agree it looks like two kits. The bass has the center lugs. I wouldn't worry about that. Clean up the parts, some new heads, and have fun!

Cheers!

The tension rods seem to be good and the thread is still there but the rims are toast! Have already sourced some new ones for the snare and rack tom but the floor tom is a 16 inch 7 lug rim! Doubt I'll find a 7 lug so doing my best to salvage them

I've had a few MIJ floor toms with 7 lugs. Mikey here on VDF is probably the best guy to ask - he can probably set you up.
