I got this snare for a song from a friend who had it sitting in his basement with a blue sparkle no-name drum kit (maybe more on that some other time). I cleaned some of the really gross stuff off the hardware but it's still kinda pitted and is waiting on a proper resto when funds permit. It's my working snare but is still babied. I've been doing my homework on Gretschs and haven't been able to find anything like this. Alot of similars but nothing exact. As far as I can tell the strainer is not the original; it seems to have the mounting holes for the renown strainer seen here. The current strainer appears similar to that renown but has a different mount. The butt, 6 lug style, and all knobs match what I've seen on economy models but the die-cast hoops aren't. I can't even find any snare with die-cast hoops and only six lugs. It has a paper label inside which should date it to the mid-60's. All the guesses I'm making here come from the limited examples I've seen on this site so forgive me if I'm way off here. The last pic is kind of hard to see but it says Model: 4105 Serial:48193. I just really didn't want to retune in my apartment with angry neighbors.
Here's the rundown as per the guidelines:
round badge Gretsch with vent
wood shell (duh)
white pearl
5.5" x 14"
silver paint interior with "that great gretsch sound" paper label
6 lugs and die-cast hoops
I've included pictures of any and all hardware just to cover all the bases. I tried to be thorough.
