Help identifying Gretsch snare

Loading...

I just recently purchased an old Gretsch snare at a yard sale and I have been unable to determine when it was produced. The interior of the shell is gray with round head screws. There is no serial number sticker, stamping or marks of any kind on the inside of the shell. If anyone can help me narrow down when this was made, I would greatly appreciate it.

My guess would be late 1950's. Reason being is the single flange hoops and clips. But I'm certainly not an expert.

The photo looks like a four ply shell. Can you see a clearer part of the bearing edge to determine if that is the case?

I have never really seen anyone pinpoint years on Round Badge Gretsch to great certainty like Dr Carl with Slingerland and Tommy P with Rogers.

The reason is Gretsch did not change as often as other drum companies They used that badge for such a long time. There was a switch from the 3 ply to 6 ply or silver with a paper tag and without a paper tag.

I think with a paper tag inside you can get closer to a year since they started adding numbers to the tag.

Since it does not have a paper tag then the 50's date would be the most logical answer. Please double check the shell.
