Hi drum experts!

I'm wonder if you can help me out. My father recently passed away. He was an active musician in the 60-70s. He played with glen fry as a teenager in royal oak and had lots of vintage gear. The lawyers are having me liquidate his estate. I have no space for his drums. I'm wondering if you can help me identify them. He always said it was a valuable vintage kit,"the same one ringo had". He used to joke it was part of his "retirement plan". I am just trying to pay off his remaining debts and I need to sell anything of value like this.

The only numbers I see are little numbers on the Ludwig metal tabs on the side if the drums. Can you help me figure out what model this is and how id list it to sell? It's pretty beaten up, I know the cymbals and hi hat are new and also the snare but the toms and kick are vintage.

Each drum has a tag like the one shown with the following numbers:

If this is not the right place to ask, please let me know. I'm kind of at a loss on where to go or how to figure this out. I have very little knowledge of vintage drums.

Welcome! You will need to post more pics for a better guesstimate. It should pull in some money if it is a complete ludwig black oyster like Ringos.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your father passing on. Regarding the drums... we can give you some decent ball-park estimates of the equipment, but you really need to contact someone local to you, who can inspect the drums in-person. Where are you located? I would recommend that you spend some time at ebay and see what similar items to yours have been selling for recently. Your dad was right about the Ringo kit... it's valuable and will go a long way to help settling some of those outstanding debts.

Post several shots of the drums and any cymbals, stands, or hardware that you may have. We'll do our best to help you get an idea of what the potential is.

Pictures will tell the whole story.

Serial #'s and photo indicate a mid 60's Ludwig set.

Value tbd by VDF experts.

My guesstimate 1K-2K if unscratched and intact.

That's what I was thinking too. More in the 2K range if it's all in nice shape. There may be cymbals and stands etc. as well which would add to the value.

Keep in mind those prices are for sets without any modifications.

For example original mounts, no extra holes, cigarette burns, or other wear.

Does the set have the bottom hoops and heads, any old gear with the drums will also help value.

Some guys like myself love the "mojo" of a well used set, while it adds character it won't fetch as much moolah.

I added some photos, hope that helps. Is there some specific way to ship drums if I have to? I assume I could just bubble wrap them real good in boxes.

Never like to see a kit with removed reso hoops/heads (bottom side). Especially for the bass it can mean the drum going out of round - which may not be the case here, but you never know from photos only.

The main thing I see is there seems to be a repair to 1 lug inside the bass which drops value & leads me to wonder What else is there?
