Help Identifying a Possible Fibes Snare

From OddBall

Did I at least get the time frame right ? I thought the yellow fiberglass was the early stuff from late 60's. Whoops !!

OB!

The drum shown is not fiberglass ... it's a maple shell .. so .. it could either be a Corder made drum which would date it at 1979 on .. or .. a Fibes Austin which would date in from 1994. ORIGINAL Fibes/fiberglass shells were not yellow really, but rather a brownish/tan with a fiberglass "weave" in their natural state. Fibes snare drum shells are spun and were a green color. After Bob Grauso SOLD Fibes to the CFMartin company in 1970, they started painting the interiors BLACK to make them a bit more appealing aesthetically. I'll attach a couple pics of my 1967/68 Fibes built by Bob Grauso, and of my 1972 Fibes/CFMartin with the black interior. The bass drum interior is how they all looked back in the 60's .. and again .. snare drum shells were spun rather than hand laid up, and had a greenish color to the fiberglass. I think the drum he has here is a Fibes Austin, and that would date it from 1994. But again, it "could be" Corder too! I'm thinking Fibes Austin though, as there were quite a few of those out there, and mostly in wood. Certainly more than Corders, but it could be Corder too as the lugs are flat and there aren't any gaskets, which Fibes Austin used for a while.

Which badge would it have ?

OB!

As mentioned, I know/play ORIGINAL Fibes pretty cold .. 1965 to 1979 .. and not so much Corder, Darwin, and then Fibes Austin. So ... I did some research. I believe the drum he has here is Corder! Turns out that Darwin and then Fibes Austin BOTH used gaskets under the lugs .. and both had the "ridge" under the lug as OEM Fibes did .. but .. Corder had a flat back on their lug and no gaskets. In addition, the Corder badge was a silver foil badge that had an adhesive back and was often lost as they tended to fall off. So all of that, plus the SMALL snare tension knob and the wood shell, suggests Corder. That would date the drum from 1979 to 1990.

Thanks Tommyp! And GAR and OddBall for any and all help y'all provided.

Now I need to do some research. Think I'm going to sell this to make room for some other snares on my snare rack and want to make sure I sell it for the right price.

Hi y'all. I got this snare and am looking for more information on it. The throwoff and lugs and woodiness make me think it could be an Austin-era Fibes, but it has no badge and no other identification. Any chance anyone has more information on this thing? It's got 10 lugs, and is 14x6.5.Thanks!

The shell is a maple birds eye that Austin used as I have a 13x5.

No badge or gaskets though makes me think custom build.
