Help Identifying a Ludwig snare drum

Loading...

My "Ludwig"brass 6 1/2 X 14 10 lug black/white rounded corner badge drum-cast butt plate-bowtie lugs-I replaced the p.o.s.throw with a P-85-Ser # 858162.Same crimped badge grommet, and it has a rubber insulator between the crimp and the shell on the inside.I think Black/White badge is made in China?

Also-I reversed this drums setup on my sons Acrolite-Imperial lugs on the Acrolite.

I think this drum is Chinese-

loorenz: I am no expert and this will probably end this thread but I have a 6.5 X 14 - 10 lug bowtie - Ludalloy - P-38 throw off - round muffler - ludwig snare that I ordered with a set of drums in 1984. The only difference I can see is that my bowtie lugs fit more closely to the ridge in your drum and my snare has the large transition keystone badge with Chicage Drum Co. U.S.A.and no ID#s. In previous posts I tried to ID the snare but couldn't make any connections with the exception that there were apparently very few of these drums produced. Its probably like other Ludwig products that turn up occasionaly that cannot be Identified. TOM

My first post and my $.02...

The six digit serial number on a rounded b/o badge seems bogus. But, anything was possible with Ludwig (whatever was lying around/get it out the door). See if a magnet sticks to the shell. I agree with Tom that the lug fit around the center bead is suspect.

Tom, I also have a 6 1/2" Supra with bowties and the later Chicago Badge. From what I have come up with in my research this was a Ludwig 75th Annivesary/Last year in Chicago production in '84 that had Chicago on the newer keystone badge with no serial number. Because they have the bowtie lugs nobody thinks they're the real deal. Tragically, mine is a mess, even by pitted supra standards. I'll post here when I get to restoring it.

Thanks for all the answers, this snare drum don't belongs to me. It belongs to a musician that want to sell it, but it's difficult to estimate the price.

JD15 rest assured our snares seem to be intentially built. I don't know why other then the 75 anniversity connection because I ordered a phaser 11 set from the 75 th anniversity catalog. Every other drum in the set has the larger keystone badge with Ludwig Drum Co. Chicago U.S.A. with ID numbers but the snare 6.5 X 14 does not have ID#s and apparently there were not very many produced. The drums are 25 yrs old but not considered vintage on this forum so info is limited. TOM
