Help Identify this Grestch Finish Last viewed: 13 seconds ago

Loading...

I looked through some of the Gretsch catalogue scans online and can't find anything to match what is on this kit.

Is this some sort of sparkle finish that has degraded _ is it paint _ or what?

The closer I look at this it seems to be a painted finish _ question is _ is this something a previous owner had done _ or something possibly factory applied?

It looks non factory, have you removed any of the lugs to see what is underneath them?

Looks like speckled trunk paint. No way original. These have black interiors too, don't they?

Lot's of stripping there.

I don't have them in hand yet _ just won them in auction and had some big reservations before pulling the trigger on them _ and did it in the last seconds.

I'm not too deep moneywise on the purchase.

Bass drum is complete hardware wise_ no badges or paper tags on any of the drums.

The 12" rack on the right seems correct _ but that 13" rack tom {on left} is very suspect.

Yeah that's what I was thinking some sort of speckled paint like a granitone only in green.

The 12" tom the pne I'm more certain about has a black interior. The bass drum looks to have the standard silver sealer. The 13" rack tom has a grey interior with vertical grain running edge to edge _ so that's almost certainly asian.

Just looked up "trunk paint" at the dupilcolor website _ and they have a "black and aqua" listed {but no color swatch} so I think you may be right on the money with that suggestion.

Now I don`t know how many different lugs Grestch made but I think I see four different kinds, the BD has it`s, the smaller tom has it`s which the crimp is more curved than the BD, and the larger one has two different top and bottom lugs with different sized .."toes" ...one`s on top look different length..."toes"... and look where the larger tom mount seems located at the extreme bottom of the drum !i

Yeah thats why I had reservations about bidding it. A lot of fairly iffy stuff.

The bass drum has a pratt muffler installed _ with the correct claws and torpedo style tension rods _ so I'm fairly certain that that at least is legit.

But overall the "drum kit" is a mess _ grimy, dirty, rusty _ and apparently painted with "trunk paint".

I'll try to upload some more images.

Thanks All
