Contact Paper (of some type) over old wrap. I've seen this before on a lot of kits from the 70's. If you peel up a corner (take the head off a Tom) you'll see the old wrap.

If that's the case, that is the best job of trimming around rivets and the lower trim ring I have ever seen.

It almost looks like they forgot to take the protective film of the metal wrap before the completed the drums.

That seems highly unlikely that they would make the same mistake on an entire drum set. I would vote that it is silver silk plastic wrap.

I have some questions-is "Brushed Silver",which is listed as a "metallic finish",metal?Or metallized plastic of some sort?Did Ludwig cover any of their finishes with plastic sheeting to deter damage? Is this particular wrap coming apart, where the top layer is seperating from a lower layer causing the wrinkling in the photos?I remember seeing a brand new Ludwig WMP Buddy Rich style set at school back in the day,and saying to myself-those rivets are UGLY-they need to get their sh1t together.

I took some more pics. The seam is extremly tight and the rivets do not go all the way through the shell. The edge o the wrapis very straight on the edge of the shell and the wrap isnt comming apart on the edge of the wrap at all.

Im fixin to remove the tom bracket and look under there

Under the tom bracket there are 2 extra holes. The silver silk film is really stuck to the plastic wrap under the silver. I tried to pull it back a little and see under it. Looks like plastic under it and it is stuck like glue.

definitely factory. And a brushed finish just like the first pictures you posted showed.

Again I think it is silver silk.

I went poking around in a few other forums and I have decided these are the silver silk. There's tons of blue silk around. I am still waiting on Ludwig-Dude to reply though.........
