Help Identify my 2 Slingerland Snares

Loading...

Both are WMP

#1 Rim clips, rapid strainer, 8 lugs, no muffler rough looking dark wood, Chicago badge 1959. I think a student RK

#2 Triple Flange, rapid, 8 lugs, muffler, smooth chocolate inside, Niles badge 1962-1970. I was told this is a Hollywood Ace. Cannot tell if it is solid shell.

Picture 1 and 2 are Niles snare; 3,4,5 Chicago snare

Looks correct to me... Serial number on the Hollywood Ace should pin down a year. Nice combo..

Cheers

I'd say that it's not.... they were 3ply shells then , but if you unscrew a lug (or even better), the tone control you should get a look in ..

That maple interior drum appears to have a natural finish, not the chocolate paint. The paint is flat and you can't see the grain through it.

Hello Ken, how about a serial number for the Niles drum? The tone control is not original.

202xxx is ~'68 - '69. A 3-ply shell would be expected. Remove a lug or the tone control as other have suggested for a positive ID.

Hello thin shell, I would like to see some more pictures of this interior but according to Slingerland historian Dr. CJ Wenk the 'milk chocolate' stain varied greatly; from so weak you could see the grain to completely opaque like paint. Examples of very weak stain are not uncommon.

Look closely & more often than not, you can see some grain through that finish...
