Help identify 70s Yamaha tom mount

Loading...

Here is a photo of a 1970s? era Yamaha tom mount and kit.

I suspect it is no younger than a 1976 due to that it still has internal mufflers on the toms and a bass drum cymbal post mount as well as small bass drum feet. It`s in Japan and not a US import model. Looking at the large double tom mount I see elements of the modern omni ball concept but still quite different. I checked around on the web but couldn't locate 1970s era catalog pdfs. Anyone have Yamaha 70s catalogs on file to share? Can anyone date this kit or give it`s model/info?

thanks alot.

I bought this kit in Osaka tonight for parts for about 70$ but it looks fun- I might fix it up for fun and give it a test drive.

Hi,

I have a similar tom holder on my Yamaha kit, which is a Model 295. It is indeed a predecessor of the later omni ball. My drums look different from yours, have more modern lugs, but have mufflers inside too. I am currently trying to find out when my drums were made, but I purchased them new in 1978.

I have to say that this is a new one on me. Never saw it on USA kits or in the literature.

Kind of an odd kit, with 7000-series lugs, a metallic wrap, that holder and metal kick hoops with standard spurs, an amalgam between earlier "Y"-badge drums and later 7000 series. What are the shells made of?

Just some extra info. That beautiful red metallic is an early 70's. The silver metallic is mid 70's (came right after that red model) and is indeed a transition model to the ball mounts, tom and bd bracket as we know it now and the vintage style bd spurs. I had a transition model in red metallic model:
