help ID-ing a 50-54 leedy&ludwig 16x12 snare

Hello,

I know what years my snare may be, but not the exact year. It is a 16x12 snare (no snares) 10 LUG. Reinforcement hoops (top & bottom) on the inside of the shell. Painted white inside, perhaps with an oil based paint. Hard & glossy it looks like (white, but has faded to an off white, ecru, or eggshell)

The main stringer mechanism is missing... where it mounted to the shell, the hole pattern is an upside-down triangle. (maybe 1 1/2 inch spread on the hole pattern)

Leedy Ludwig elkhart badge.

Also, on the inside there is a stamped #..... four digits maybe. The 1st one has been smeared, looks like maybe a 0 or a 5? the other three #'s read 406.

So '_406' best I can tell. Maybe a 1954????? Lemme know and thanks a ton.

Can you verify that snare size are you measuring from rim to rim or inside

edge of the hoop?

I presume the 12" is the depth and is that the shell or the toal height of the drum?

Yeah, it's definitely as big around as my floor tom (16x18). If my floor tom were a 10 lug, I could interchange hoops. Yes the depth is 12". I currently play a 15x11, 8 lug, Ludwig Blu/Olv badge (s/n 1221702) snare. AKA: snarezilla. I think it's a '75 or '76, gold glitter finish..... and this Leedy is 1" taller and 1"bigger around. I will post some pics for ya today... Thanks a ton

So here are the pics of my snare. SNAREZILLA II. I forget to take a pic of the # on the inside of the shell... If anyone can help me ID this thing, it would be greatly appreciated. I looks as if someone, at some point, tried to refinish the drum themselves. (note the way the badge is pryed away from the shell, but not removed) I'm interested in restoring this beauty, so any info about parts etc. would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton & Cheers,

Yes, this was a Marching Snare. They did have a 12" x 16" # 3137

"The Leedy Floating Head Street Drum" The King of them All!

This is from an older catalog before they were Leedy/Ludwig, but the drums did not drastically change.

In regards to the parts, it might be a pain to find the correct strainer and I'm not sold on the fact it is worth restoring to original.

Only because you can find Leedy Marching snares on Ebay that will be more original.

Your best bet is to find a similar snare and swap parts out etc..

You might spend at least $100 on parts. When if you wait you will probably find a drum on Ebay for $150 or so. Marching snares in general do not go for big bucks. We call them donor drums and the donor drum might need new hoops and lugs, which you have already.

The two extra holes, are oddly placed and look off center, so I'm not sure exaclty what they are for.

A key holder was usually placed next to the badge on many of these drums.

I have a catalog that I will have to scan a picture from.

Other then that if it has some kind of sentimental value then the restoration process is worth it. With Ebay it is a waiting game and you have to be patient.

Yeah I just want it to look cool as hell and to be able to play it. Do you know of any snare stands that may accomodate? Ya know, like a super low-boy... I don't really wanna drill for floor tom mounts..... I have the 2 lugs that are missing from the shell..... Um, yeah cool. Thanks again.
