I am on the verge of buying this drum set...trying to find out what it is really worth. Please only answer if you have knowledge in the field.

This what was posted in the ad:

Vintage 1967 Ludwig Burgundy Sparkle drumset. All original (except heads), very rare, and in beautiful condition! From my personal collection. 22" bass, 13" tom, 16" floor tom, and 5" x 14" matching Jazz Festival snare drum. Burgundy sparkle finish is very beautiful and in ultra excellent condition. All hardware ( rims, lugs, mounts, holders, snare strainer, tension rods, etc. is ultra excellent condition). Ludwig made the Burgundy Sparkle finish for one year only, 1967. A very rare finish on a drumset hard to find and this one is practically flawless with very vivid and consistent finish. Brass keystone badges. Bass drum serial number is 479433 (bass drum hoops have been repainted), snare drum serial number is 394210, tom serial number is 478381, floor tom serial number is 499897. All drums have beautiful factory white interiors with date stamped inside shells. Baseball bat tone controls with white felt mufflers. A truly great sounding set of very rare and highly collectible drums in unbelievable condition. No extra holes, no modifications. Original factory bearing edges.Set includes original cymbal L-arm (not shown).

here is a picture. set is in mint condition.

'60s sets in rare finishes with matching snares are real hot right now. (You're combining collectability and playablity..)Desired configurations (20, 12, 14 or 22, 13, 16) increase the value. Wouldn't be shocked if that set sold for $2-3000. Will it go up from there? Nobody knows...but they ain't makin' anymore...

I see the opening bid is at $2,750. I don't know if you consider this relevent or direct knowlege but a set of very nice 1964 Slingerlands sold two days ago for $1,400. Same sizes with a matching snare in Champagne Sparkle. Let someone else comment on rarity value, quality or a Ludwig preference but half the price would peak my interest for a similar vintage.

Ludwigs in rare finishes (burgandy, mod orange, etc.) generally bring in more money that Slingerlands in common finishes. (The Slingerland set that just sold on ebay aren't really a good comp. for this set. They were 20, 12, 14 in Champagne sparkle. They had a solid shell snre (big plus) but an extra hole in the bass drum...slight devalue).

If you check comparable Ludwig sets, you'll see that 2750 is on the high end...so as an investment it probably wouldn't go up in the short term,, but if have the dough and like the set, you only live once.
