Help! Do Early Sound King Snares not Have Lines? Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Loading...

I saw a 60's Slingerland snare listed on Ebay as a Sound King, but in the picture, the shell was smooth, no lines! Did the early COB Sound Kings use the smooth shell similar to the one used on the Festival? If so, when did Slingerland move to the three lines on the Sound King shell?

Thanks much!

No lines on the early ones. Not sure when the switch occurred.

Thanks! So, wonder if the '63 no line shell is the same shell used in the early COB Festivals?

That was my Sound King you saw on ebay. I had a change of heart and decided to keep it instead of sell it. It is a 1963 and it is a chrome plated brass shell without the lines. Seems they made them that way from late 1962 to the end of 1963 production. For whatever reason Slingerland decided the shell needed lines on it for 1964. I believe the shell was the same as the festival, the difference being in the butt and throwoff. Mine is the 8-lug version, but they also made a 10-lug version, which from what I understand is even more rare than the one I have, being basically a 1 1/4 year only run.

Funny, I was watching it and then noticed it didn't have lines and was trying to figure out what exactly it was....just a novice here. :(

Your reserve was probably out of my price range, trying to "steal" one that needs a good cleaning and going over...which yours doesn't.

Thanks!
