Help: Bass Drum Clanger Last viewed: 1 day ago

I have a turn of the century bass drum pedal with clanger and the cymbal setup. I just cannot figure out how to get the clanger to keep from slipping around the rod of the beater. I'd sure appreciate any tips out there. Frustrated.

That is happening because you have on there a more modern beater and it a bit thinner than the original so it has that play on the clanger. The original beater had a thicker post that when inserted held clanger down firmly.

This makes total sense. The beater I have is also ancient, wool, but I must have misjudged the era in connection with this clanger.

I was thinking maybe it should have flats or be squared in one section.

The beater stem does have a sort of groove towards the bottom. Oh well. Duct tape to the rescue maybe, when all else fails.

DOH Duct tape? How about one of these gizmos mounted onto the beater arm...

Drill bit stops. It should give you the fatter diameter the clanger is looking for.

Geez, just take a small strip of scrap leather, wrap it around the stem and insert it into the holder. Use as many turns of the leather strap as you need to make a good collar. Cheap, quick and dirty fix.

Too many great drums to list here!

You guys are awesome with your ideas. I now have a path forward. I am not very clever with solving mechanical problems. You've given me a couple of paths forward. Thanks again. Case closed!
