HELP - Are these MIJs worth it?

Hi! I need your advice on this auction:

http://aukro.cz/bici-souprava-i2107665544.html

I know that Maxwins are nothing too great - cheap wood, 9ply shells.

The thing is that my friend is looking for an affordable drumset for her band's drummer and obviously they don't have an awful lot of money. This kit is complete with cymbals and the price is 225 (275 for Buy now) USD.

I had cheap chinese kit and it was absolutely horrible - the hardware was falling apart and shells were splitting - but I thought that maybe this kit could be at least reliable and working, if not sounding too great. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

I don't want to give her bad advice, as I was given when I was buying my first kit.

That snare is intriguing. When I zoom in on it, it looks like a Downbeat, Jazz Combo or Las Vegas, if it is, that alone is worth it and there's some flat base hardware. With cymbals, I think it's a good deal. You can always offer less.....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

The snare and the flat base hardware is Amati - so nothing too great.

I'm not getting any pictures-and I can't read Chezch-Burger Kin

Well,on the second attempt it all came through-8 lug bass and floor tom with upgraded spurs and pretty good stands snare etc. Besides the crash cymbal :( it all looks OK.I wouldn't call them "tone kings",but with some tweaking they will work.

The crash looks like it's been cut to a smaller diameter so it'll probably sound crappy.

From the pics, the hats look like they may be of good quality,if they are A zils or comparable the 225.00 to 250.00 is the top I would pay if the kit was here in the U.S.

I don't know what kind of money Taiwanese entry level kits bring in your country, but I would like to see how well the tom mounts and Brackets and BD spurs were holding up before I made an offer,as a gigging kit that hardware is made to last 10 to 15 years max in my experience,so you may factor condition in to your offer, but if the kit has been taken care of and not gigged to hard it would be a decent deal for a beginner, you can usually get those to sound decent with pinstripes as batters.

The hats are cheap czech "Magic" cymbals. If they're brass, they're awful, if they're B8, they're ok.

Sounds a little steep, looks like it needs new heads. Pearl hardware on luan shells.

Looks exactly like a Red Sparkle CB-700 kit that I have from the mid-70's. Same tom mounts (which I replaced), same lugs, same internal tone controls etc.

Don't laugh! I had all the bearing edges re-cut on mine and it actually sounds really good!

I wouldn't pay more than $225. I got mine for $90, so take that into consideration. Plus, the bass drum hoops are mismatched. That snare is pretty cool, though.

I thought for a minute that the hi-hats said "Soultone" on them.

All in all, I think these would be good. However, you'll need to upgrade the heads and I also recommend upgrading the tom mounting as well.

Thanks for all the advice, guys, I think I'll pass them - these guys need something really cheap and I think that for this money I could find something better.
