I used to start threads all the time....every subject I could think of...Then, after over 15 years of it, everything got asked. Now, it's just the occasional ID question or valuation question. There is no controversy in the drum world anymore so discussions come and go quickly.
I hate to say it, but knowledge in the vintage drum world is finite and easily-learnable by anyone who is interested. Everything we wanted to be "experts" about, we have done..And even when we are inaccurate at times, it really doesn't even matter....big deal, huh?
All we can do now is hope for an inaccuracy to show up and then spend 4 pages of banter over it.
But, I've been here from the beginning and can't let it go. Everything else in the world is going to s _ _ t but this place remains unchanged.

Yes.. one of the few places left that we don't need a mask... Cheers

Didn't we just do this? I would share my projects but its too much of a hassle to load the photos plus I think people are bored with my restorations anymore.
But I still like to see what is going on here, its a great place.
Thank you!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
I'm old school ... VDF works for me
Has everyone run out of pictures of their vintage drums to post and say: "Lookie here"?
I would say that there is always more to learn. It's still almost impossible to date a Camco kit accurately, let alone their catalogs. And yes, most of the big questions in the drum business have been answered to most everyone's satisfaction, but a few more still remain.
Perhaps we are down to the minutiae or the business now.
I have noticed a trend in most all of the US drum companies. In their early years, they are full of fresh, innovative designs, quality materials and workmanship. As the years progress and personnel and corporate acquisitions occur, corners start getting cut and the products starts to get produced more cheaply. Those back-room reasons are what interest me.
Did John Rochon of Camco sell to Kustom because he was tired of the drum business, or did he have an IRS problem that he needed to go away? Was Rogers intentionally sabotaged and devalued in 1984 in order facilitate a sweet deal for a specific someone to buy the brand? Inquiring minds want to know.
Sorry for the diatribe and the hijack of the thread....
