Hello, new here with a question....

Loading...

I'm in the process of buying this vintage Ludwig from a good friend of mine. He say's that its a 1958 but to me and what I know about vintage Ludwig's it seems to me that it looks more like a late 60's (1968?).

Can anyone back me up on this. Sorry that the pic is kinda shiddy but that's all that I've got at the moment.

Thanks

T

Wow! That's really a stretch to try and see what is what in that picture. But, the top mounted cymbal holder suggests an older design closer to the late 50's era. But, man, that's a guess based on trying to see underwater!Eye Ball

I thought that the 50's era drums had a single lug design??

The single-lug design was on "Club Date" drums -- just a different (lower-priced) model.

Man, is that a 24" K ride? Nice! and it also looks like the spurs are hoops clip-on style, not shell mounted. That would make them earlier than 60s as well. But with everyone else, underwater to see a big not much. Nice color though.

The rail mount is slung off further to the outside, more like a '50's kit than a '60's . They're probably clear mahogany interiors, which many prefer to the late maple ones...marko

poor old drummer always gets stuck in the corner!!

is the tom mounted with a spade style mount as opposed to a rod? that center disappearing cymbal mount would be accurate for the time he is thinking as well.

what do the badges look like? they should seal the deal for us pinning them down.

My guess is 50s Ludwig or W.F.L. set..On the bass drum the tom mount is lower and closer to the back rim [[50s]] in the 60s the mount would be on the side not as low and near the middle of the drum, the cymbal mount in middle of shell[[50s]] cant tell but the bass legs look like clip on ones on the rim [[50s]] the lugs and rimes look nickel not chrome-[50s-60s]..Could be a W.F.L. set too from 1955-59...Badges would tell alot....Mikey
