Hello and a vintage Star kit

Loading...

Hello everyone from BC Canada.

I have been lurking around the site for a while and thought I'd finally join. A few years ago I found this old Star kit abandoned in the back room of a small guitar store and took it home. It was missing some hardware, bits and pieces and all the heads were off...but I figured it could use a new home. I play in a local country band and this little kit has served me well for that purpose and I have grown quite attached to it!

I have seem some other posts about Star, but thought I`d post a few pics (sorry about the quality and dust!) to see if anyone here could give me a little more info about it? The one that stood out to me is that the lugs on the bass and floor tom are the same, but the mounted tom lugs are different?

Anyways I welcome any comments or info you may be able to provide!

Welcome aboard StarPlayer. Nice to see another British Columbian on the site. I belive your kit is early 70's based on the round badges. The lugs on the rack tom have been replaced with Pearl lugs. I really like the finish on those. If you want to really make them shine polish them up with Novus 2. It will make them like new again. If you are looking for parts Mikey777 has boatloads of them. I bought a bunch of stuff from him to restore two Star kits of the same time period. Excellent chap to deal with. If you google Tama catalogs you can find a bunch of stuff on the early Star kits.

Outch! Another reason why I don't like those Pearl style lugs! ;)

Indeed, Mikey777 is the guy who might be able to serve you with 12 matching lugs (and perhaps the missing tom holder, too).

Other than that that's a great looking kit with a stylish finish!

Ralf

NB: the genuine fixing screw in the tom bracket should not be a T-screw, but a common small square headed one (if the thread is still ok).

Thanks for the comments!

As I said I really like this little kit...it has played tons of gigs and has never let me down. Although I have it set up for country/classic rock I bet it would sound fantastic with single ply's to bring more of the vintage warmth out of it.

Anyways I thought I would add a few pics of the snare drum. I have never used it as the strainer is a little gibbled...but now I'm thinking of maybe restoring it or at least getting it playable and using it. I'm thinking it would sound pretty good...It certainly has some weight to it!

B.C. Bud club, too funny.

StarPlayer, if you find that you don't like the snare I will take it off your hands. Like I said before try Mikey777 for any parts you need. If you have any questions shoot me a pm and I will try to help as best I can.

Welcome, sir!

I am an avid Star collector from Ontario. Ralf was kind enough to post my kit on the Drum Image Gallery under "Star drumset in turquise sparkle". Since then, I have added a few more including my latest, a Star round badge marching snare with 15 inch rims! It never ends but, that's a good thing! You'll see.
