Hell Bent for Ludwig Leather! Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

Picked these guys up for $100 bucks of C-List awhile back and I am wondering if anyone has any experience removing leather from vintage drums? Can I just fire a heat gun on these suckers or will I go up in flames? Any suggestions?

The ride tom is date stamped Dec 27th 1966 and the sizes are

12, 16, 20.

Edges look good. Does have some holes filled and some Rogers hardware added but should make for a decent re-wrap kit when it is all said and done. If I can get this freaking leather off!!!

That looks like Naugahyde fabric. If it is, be very careful with the heat gun, It will flame up.

Scraper, wire brush, palm sander, acetone....I think it's going to take everything to get that stuff off! Fantastic $100.00 score though!

Looking forward to this one....:)

If the glue appears to be a yellowish color, it may be landau glue. Which is popular for upholstery. Try using mineral spirits or gasoline. They won't hurt the wood any. A scrapper can help, but I wouldn't use it. A heat gun also breaks up landau glue but it's work.

Good luck

I think it looks kinda cool! I'd get some matching fake leather material and I'd rewrap the tom and Voila! Less labor! A unique set!
