Maybe not Vintage - Classic?

There will be nothing wrong with your usual head choice - a 1026 is a completely straightforward steel snare.

If you have no preferred head, there will be nothing wrong with a Coated Ambassador over an Ambassador Hazy. If you like a little deeper tunings, you could try a Coated Emperor on top instead.

A set of bronze snare wires might help you, if you want to soften the somewhat harsh sound of a steel shell a little.

1026' s are not that common - why not show us some pictures?

Thanks Jon!

In other words stick with the classics.I tend to tune very high and prefer to avoid moongels (unless asked by studio techs or people hiring me). I'll try bronze snare wires. In 35 years of drumming I have never used anything but your run of the mill Snappy snares, so maybe it will be a revelation for me. It came with some weird RhythmTech active snare system on it, so I was gonna swap that out anyway.

I'm surprised you find these rare, as they commonly came with XPK kits, but I'll up some pics for you.

Cheers!

All right - here in Denmark it was invariably the 10-lug 1036, that came with the APK/XPK-kits.

To me, it sounds like you could probably try a Remo Skyntone - were soft and mellow heads, warmer than Ambassadors. I use them on my two alu-snares - a Shaftesbury Pacesetter and a Premier 36. Remo likes to say they sound like calfskin heads....I like them!
