Has anyone here found the perfect combination of heads for a Gretsch late
50's 3ply snare drum?
I'm having trouble stopping the drum from buzzing........a very annoying buz - and loud. It calms down a bit if I detune the reso head.
I have an Evans Hazy 300 reso and I did have a calfhead on the batter side. I have an Evans G1 coated - used but very good still - on it now. I've changed the snares a few times and the snare strings too. I have some old
'white plastic' strips on there now. I was using some puresound string. But - still buzzing to no end.
Any ideas??
Oh yes - and the bearing edges are very good - like new - so that's not the problem.
Could it be the STICK-CHOPPER hoops??? I'll have to look at that - just thought of it. If they're really bent out of shape maybe they're not allowing the head to come in contact with the shell properly.......you think??
Thoughts??
