Has anybody used one of these units? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

I'm thinking of trying out a set of these snares:

http://drumsonsale.com/product.php?id_product=17417

I can't believe the price! An aluminum frame, and a set of split-snares for $18.00? Incredible. It's like a poor-man's 'Dynasonic' type snare set-up. I'm just curious if anyone has used one of these units?

I figure for $18. I can't get hurt too bad if I try them out. However, it would be nice to hear any reviews -before- I take the plunge and plunk down my cash. Doesn't appear to be a 'junk' item in spite of the surprisingly low price.

Anybody? I've never seen these before...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I thought the same thing, poor mans super sensitive. Remember the old rule, you get what you pay for! But then again sometimes products are priced very reasonable. For 18.50 its not too much of a risk. Let us know what you think please.

Thank you!

I would almost pay you 18.00 to forget you ever had that idea.

Trust me, don't do it.

Ah RhythmTech have been making these for years and years. Maybe since the mid 90's. I've never tried them but I've heard good things about them over the years. They are probably more suited to the Rock/Pop/Funk/RnB heavy backbeat styles as opposed to the more tactile Jazz thing. By all means try it out and let us know.

John i had a used one a few years back that came on a beater snare, i tried the unit out on a few quality snare drums just to see my self what it could do for me to be honest i had less than desirable results with it and i found it to be very limited and a bit on the counter productive side not at all like the dyna bridge as we all like, Maybe my used unit was old and seen better days, but for 18$ for a new unit i would try it aging just to see if it was just me having a bad day with it.

I also had one that came on a used snare. Unfortunately the previous owner cut the cords too short after assembly to effectively try it on anything else. It is a cool idea and am quite interested as it may be the solution to my NOS Slingy shell project.

Ploughman, what were the details of your experience with these?

I have used this with satisfactory results on MIJ snares with lousy snare beds. I also used one on a 10x14 Big R Rogers tom which I converted to a snare (no beds at all). It ensures a nice, flat seating of the pre-tensioned snares against the reso head, but NO!, it is absolutely no substitute for a Dynasonic bridge which provides separate tensioning of the snares independent of strainer tensioning against the head.

I say try it for yourself... for the price of a few beers, what do you have to lose?

My favorite quote ....... "Ohhh, I love Rogers."

That doohickey just doesn't work. I bought one several years ago. I had seen a lot of them on Dyna-Sonics missing the real snare frame. So I spent, and regretted. It compares to a Rogers Dyna-Sonic frame and wires the same way MIJ tom arms compare to Rogers Swivo-Matic. Like a Yugo grill on a Jaguar.

By the way, all those Dyna-Sonic snare drums with the RT doohickies, were for sale. Not a single time have I seen anyone rave about how good it made their drum sound. Not once have I seen it bragged upon for being "The Thing."

If you want to try one out, I would gladly send you the one I have. And you could then forward it on to someone else.

Seriously, I can see no good reason to invest the wharehouse space to store them for shipment, much less the cost of making something that works with less efficiency than the new government health care website.
