Grommet options

I'm having a tough time finding the right grommets to restore old Camco drums. Most of the ones out there have too large of a flange and will cover of the lettering. Or the ones marketed for Ludwig drums and sold by myoldkentuckydrums etc, are way too thick and don't bend easily enough.

Do any of you have a source for getting more grommet options than are currently available?

My last resort will be to custom order a large lot from a manufacturer but I don't need 1000, which is usually the minimum order.

What are you using to bend the grommets with?

I use a grommet tool. The wall thickness is much too thick on the ones being marketed as Ludwig types.

The flange on the Camco grommets are impossibly narrow - otherwise the lettering gets covered up.

You can either use a round file or a dremel tool to reduce the thickness of the grommets.

I've used this option - it's far from ideal and a major hassle. Nothing beats using the correct part in such a critical place.

Just a follow up on my quest for a grommet that will work with my Geo Way badge. I contacted Matt Sinyard at Bonzo drums who re-wrapped a Camco kit I own and he turned me on to the correct grommet to use.

These may be the same grommets you were referring to, Mario. Matt said to order the Nickel grommets for Ludwig 3-ply drums. I paid $10 shipped for three of these from Detroit Drum Exchange, eBay item number 121297047629.

I have no idea how I'm going to install it as I've never done the grommet thing before!

I have done some investigating and decided that we all must be looking in the wrong place for grommets. Someone is buying them from a supplier for 35 cents each and selling them for $3.00. A catalog supplier like McMaster-Carr etc. must have a source for grommets.
